Neal of Queenscove is, at sixteen, newly the oldest son of the prestigious duchy of Queenscove after the deaths of his two older brothers in the Immortals War. Though five years older than most new pages, he chose to become a knight in their stead, leaving his education in healing magic at the Royal University in order to do so.

Neal - only his least-favourite aunt calls him Nealan - is tall, moderately good-looking and fair-skinned, with longish light brown hair swept back from a widow's peak, bright green-glass eyes under curved, expressive brows and a wilful, high-cheekboned face. He has an irrepressible flair for the dramatic, an unstoppable smart mouth and, underneath the sophistication of his intelligence and a life spent in the highest echelons of the nobility, a kind heart.
